Brazeau Brewing is located in Nordegg, Alberta, and pays homage to the orginal name of the town, Brazeau. This tiny town was isolated and made up of coal miner’s, however, disaster after disaster led to the coal mine shutting down and the town abandoned. Nordegg was on the verge of becoming a permenent ghost town and is slowly being brought back to life.
The overall mood of the brewery is a little bit wierd, a tad spooky, and a whole lot of fun. We have Brazeau Boo featured on each beer label, who brings a playful touch to the brewery. Brazeau Boo also keeps the cans and bottles easily recognizable in a jam packed beer cooler.
Although the back story is a bit spooky, Brazeau Brewing is an inclusive brewery welcoming people from all walks of life. The overall theme of Brazeua Brewing is simple and down-to-earth.
Brazeau’s Beers are breaking away from the sea of colour in the beer cooler. A simple black and white colour palette for the cans and bottles will allow for Brazeau Boo to stand out and grab the consumer’s attention.     Brazeau Brewing also has a secondary colour palette that represents their eerie inspiration. This can be found in Brazeau’s advertising, as well as on their merchandise.
I used P22 Mackinac as the typeface for Brazeau Brewing. The round terminals are reminiscent of popular fonts during the 1920-30s, which is a nod to the backstory of Brazeau Brewing and Nordegg, Alberta.     As this typeface is quite utilitarian, it is used across the board for can design, print/digital ads, and merchandise.
Saunders Kriek
Saunders Creek is a neighbouring area that is a ghost town. The only thing you will find here is a small cemetery in the middle of the woods. The design of the label for this beer has Brazeau Boo floating down the creek holding a dandelion in honour of the lives lost and forgotten.
Coal Miner’s Biere de Garde
In Nordegg’s first life, it started and ended as a coal mining town. In Nordegg’s second life, it is a growing stop in between Rock Mountain House, Alberta and the beautiful destination of Abraham Lake. Brazeau Brewing tips it’s hard helmet to the coal miner’s that worked, lived, and more often than not, gave their lives to coal mines.
It’s Sasquatch Saison
Nothing goes together quite like Sasquatch sightings and Nordegg. Many Sasquatch enthusiasts make the trek to Nordegg’s surrounding wilderness in search of the elusive Cryptid. If you happen to be watching a documentary on Sasquatch, chances are Nordegg makes a guest appearance in the film.
