Key Themes
Community: Tagline “A few great books make a collection. A few great people make a community.” October Book Shop may be in books by trade, but their true passion lies in their community. Our messages are ones of inclusion and diversity and our doors are open to all. October Book Shop is a warm place on a rainy day.
Balance: We see balance in the use of neutral and darker colours. Book stacks are balancing in the ads. Balance is a top of mind at October Book Shop as it navigates being a for-profit business while also putting community and it’s people first.
Playful: We believe play is a key ingredient to a happy life and community. It is an important part in keeping balance as we go about our lives. October, our resident black cat, has become play personified. October’s main goals in life is to play and be cozy. You can typically find October nestled on a guest’s lap or making a star appearance in one of our ads.
October reminds us to not take things too seriously. Read a book, join a community, and show a little kindness each and every day.
Mrs. and Mr. Eaves Mrs. Eaves is unique and often-times a bit weird looking. There is stark contrast between letters, often looking out of place together. Younger audiences looking for a community may feel like they don’t fit in, just like this type. “An imperfectly perfect text.” Mr Eaves is the sans-serif other half to Mrs. Eaves serif. Mr Eaves was used for the digital ads for better legibility on screen.
